Four great DVDs in one big value collector’s box set! The first DVD looks at the Titanic. Was there really a conspiracy behind its sinking? ‘Great British Aircraft’ tells the story of our aviation industry from the Vickers Vimy to the A380, while ‘Flying Scotsman’ offers a quality profile of the world’s best-loved steam loco and ‘London Underground’ reveals the fascinating secrets of the Tube!
TITANIC - THE SHOCKING TRUTH
Titanic - The Shocking Truth explores the conspiracy theory that the Titanic never sank to the bottom of the Atlantic. Evidence is documented to support the theory that the Titanic and her sister ship, the Olympic were swapped and the weakened Olympic tragically sank. Review evidence and reports of the day that show the Titanic was never ready for sea by the time of her maiden voyage. Investigate a scheme to secretly recoup the losses from the disastrous early history of accidents involving the Olympic. Find out if White Star Line scuttled the imposter ship for financial salvation not realising the tragedy they would unleash. Were White Star Line and the British government responsible for possibly one of the greatest frauds and sea tragedies in history?
GREAT BRITISH AIRCRAFT
As early as 1912, British firm Vickers were experimenting with machine gun carrying aircraft and it was World War I when aircraft were used on such a large scale for the first time. Skip forward to World War II and we had produced incredible bomber planes such as the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire. 1969 saw the first flight of Concorde, a turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airline enter service. With the advances in technology, we are now in the designers’ golden age and witness the production of incredible engineering feats such as the Airbus A380, a double deck wide body four engine jet airliner jointly developed by European countries including the United Kingdom.
STEAM CLASSICS: FLYING SCOTSMAN
“Flying Scotsman” is known as the most famous steam locomotive in the world. Illustrated by evocative footage of the engine working on the British railway network in various guises, this programme traces the story from the time when the locomotive returned from Australia after achieving its most recent record - the world’s longest non-stop run behind steam. In this programme we see “Flying Scotsman” with single and doublechimney fittings, “German” smoke deflectors and LNER Apple Green and “British Railways” Brunswick Green liveries, working from Carnforth in the North to Salisbury in the South, as well as on the “Ride the Legend” excursions to Scarborough.
STORY OF THE LONDON UNDERGROUND
Practical, egalitarian, efficient, popular, logical, organised and yet infuriating, maddening, and confusing it stands for everything modern
life does in this great World capital. For most Londoners we have taken the Tube for granted for decades, a huge resource that links us to our work, friends, entertainment and to every facet of life in this City. Historian and author Robin Bextor follows the story behind its
construction on the way to becoming the first underground system on this planet. This film also questions why the Tube is the way it is, how it affects our lives and how it has changed over the years.
