Featuring original newsreel footage of key people and events that shaped 1970 including civil war in Nigeria, a change of government in Britain, the Vietnam war gets bloodier, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Jackie Stewart wins and a knighthood for Noel Coward. This tumultuous year begins with civil war in Nigeria. In the United States, the events at Chappaquddick Bay threaten the future of Senator Edward Kennedy and Charles Manson’s murder trial begins. The war in Vietnam continues to rage. Britain faces a bitterly cold winter, the Asian Flu epidemic kills 4000, followed by the hottest summer in 20 years. Shopping on Good Friday is allowed for the first time, and fashion begins to take a new turn. Skinheads riot at British beach resorts. Meanwhile, there’s growing unrest in Northern Ireland. Prime Minister Harold Wilson calls a June election, heralding in a new government. In the entertainment world, Noel Coward receives a knighthood, Oh Calcutta! opens on stage, and John Lennon introduces Britain to Yoko Ono for the first time. Henry Cooper wis back the British Heavyweight title from Jack Bodell, Jackie Stewart races to victory at Brands Hatch and Chelsea wins the F. A. Cup!
