A wonderful tribute to the world’s favourite Steam Locomotive. The Flying Scotsman is the sole surviving example of Sir Nigel Gresley’s Class A3 Pacific design for the London and North Eastern Railway and in her eye-catching apple green livery she has been the star of many television and film features. Now owned by the National Railway Museum, No. 4472 has had a chequered career since preservation by Alan Pegler in 1963. This DVD traces the Flying Scotsman’s story following private purchase and therough the years of her main line tours in the late 1960s to the late 1990s.

The locomotive also made two tours to other continents in the 1970s and 1980s. Firstly she went on a nationwide tour of the USA and then to Australia. However, these were unsuccessful in many ways and the locomotive changed hands several times until, in 2004, she was saved for the nation by a public appeal and put into the main collection at York.

You will also see archive footage of other A3s at work on the East Coast Main Line in the early 1960s.
