A rich collection of programmes which explore attractive railway journeys in the north of Britain.
‘The North East’
From the mouth of the River Tees to the rugged coast of the North Sea this programme takes us through some of the country’s most breath-taking scenery. With the splendour of the Esk Valley and the dramatic climb into the North York Moors, this is one of the great railway journeys.
To travel along the Settle to Carlisle line is to experience one of the most wonderful train journeys of the world. Passing along England’s wild Pennine backbone there is plenty to see and discover: not just scenery and steam trains but also rich heritage, castles and houses and the chance to see eagles and hawks fly free.
‘The Peak District’
At the southern end of the Pennines lies the Peak District, an area of open moorland, limestone plateaux, fertile valleys, stately homes, enchanting market towns and picturesque villages. We begin our journey on the Huddersfield Line on a diesel unit as it runs up into the moorlands through to our final stop, the Crich Tramway Museum with its comprehensive collection of trams from around the world.
‘The Lake District ‘
The Lake District is one of the most spectacular areas in the country and we explores it on to variety of sprinters. We start our journey at Carnforth, we then head north to Oxenholme, junction for the branch line to Windermere and then on to Kendal. At Kendal, a town of many historical buildings and bridges, we alight and visit its castle.
