A celebration of the world-famous works at Swindon, the focal point of the Great Western Railway. It turned out an impressive range of locomotives from the 1840s onwards, including Kings, Halls, Castles and Manors. This programme explores the works using some superb archive film through the days of the GWR to the Western Region of British Railways right up until closure in 1986, where we see views of the site along with withdrawn and stored rolling stock.
