Full description from the producer:

The railway and seascape along this famous stretch of Devon coastline.

Starcross • Dawlish Warren • Dawlish • Teignmouth

Where the railway meets the sea, the stretch of Devon coastline through Dawlish has been delighting passengers, holidaymakers and rail enthusiasts since it was opened back in 1846!

In his epic challenge to build a railway from London to Plymouth, chief engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel had to contend with difficult terrain, steep gradients and sharp curves. In this part of Devon in particular, extensive earth works were required around Cockwood, Dawlish and Teignmouth as well as a series of tunnels between Dawlish and Teignmouth.

From the original single line broad gauge track of the 1840s to the relaying in standard gauge in 1892 and the double track in 1905, now, over 175 years later, the sea wall at Dawlish remains an iconic part and much treasured highlight of a train journey in the south west of England.

Following the success of our Dawlish Summer Holiday DVD, our cameras returned to this delightful location in 2011 to once again film the trains and the sea as they meet in perfect harmony.

This time we go one step further and cover the whole of the coastline starting on the banks of the River Exe at Starcross, along to Dawlish Warren, then Langstone Rock and onto that famous sea wall and the English Channel at Dawlish, then through the coves and tunnels to the sea wall at Teignmouth and the station itself.

Filmed from the many well known and popular locations and a few lesser known ones, this DVD looks at the many different trains which run along here. As well as the regular passage of HSTs and DMUs, various freight flows are shown, plus steam and diesel specials. These include 60163 ‘Tornado’ and 5029 ‘Nunney Castle’ as well as Deltic 55022, and the three Railtours which ran to Penzance on Mazey Day in June 2011 featuring 2 x 20s, 2 x 31s and 2 x 37s!

Filmed in 16:9 widescreen, with a running time of 100 minutes and available for the first time ever in high definition on blu-ray, sit back and enjoy this 6.5 mile stretch of coastal railway.

Bonus footage: Trains and planes along the sea wall with highlights of the Dawlish Air Show!
