Description

Full description from producer:

This programme tells the story of countrywoman Peggy Cole, praised by her late husband as a “true Suffolk mawther” who could not only cook but turn her hand to anything.

As well as Peggy’s own recollections of traditional agricultural living in a tied cottage nearly seventy years ago, she shares her skills and knowledge of preserving and cooking the produce her family grew and harvested themselves. She also talks lovingly of her award-winning garden “Akenfield” named after the feature film in which she starred in the 1970’s.

Peggy’s delightful story is illustrated with specially filmed sequences and her own collection of historic photographs. Her popularity as a newspaper columnist and radio presenter is confirmed in this charming programme that will appeal to anyone with an interest in a country life.
