A Tribute to Cunard’s QE2
Following 39 years of continuous service and a recent uncertain history during lay-up in Dubai, we delve into the history of Cunard’s most famous liner. You can enjoy interviews with Commodore Ron Warwick and the team from ‘QE2 London’ hoping to bring the liner back to the UK. This 60-minute programme is a tribute to this wonderful ship which became part of life for so many crew and passengers alike. The liner was a familiar part of Southampton’s port as she docked on a regular basis to disembark passengers before embarking more in the afternoon for the next voyage. We look at the ship as she docks and begins the process of re-loading stores and passengers.
We go on board after her major refit in the early 2000s and discover the emotional splendours as the vessel departs from Southampton on her final normal departure for New York. We witness the great, but sad, occasion of QE2?s last day in Southampton and all the tributes paid during the day. We finish with a look at Cunard’s new liners, especially Queen Mary 2 on her inauguration day in 2004. See the interiors and the wonderful send off in the evening on her maiden voyage. A famous gathering of QE2, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria in Southampton during 2008 ends our special programme.
