Airbus A380 – Europe’s Superjumbo
This is the story of the largest passenger airliner ever built, the Airbus A380.
Highlights include historic film of its first flight at Toulouse in April 2005, spectacular footage of its maiden UK arrival at Heathrow Airport in May 2006 and a dramatic fly-past over the Bristol area. Airbus clearly believed that big planes, and not more frequent flights, would be the preferred way to handle large numbers of fliers in the future. Their new double-deck, four-engined airliner, the Airbus A380, was designed to provide the solution. The company spent around £6billion in developing the A380, but it was hoped that this investment would pay dividends by providing the solution to air travel congestion and to estimates that passenger traffic would double in 15 years. The A380 was designed so that it could accommodate more passengers and cargo than any other commercial airliner, yet its designers claimed it would actually increase efficiency, use less fuel and generate less noise. This DVD is a tribute to a record-breaking aircraft, and one which hoped to set new boundaries in worldwide aviation.
