Full description from the producer:
Founded in the late 19th century by a small group of well-meaning people who wanted to save parts of the Lake District from development the Trust has grown into one of the largest private landowners in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The National Trust’s original mission was to save, where possible, sections of beautiful and dramatic landscape. The idea of rescuing, saving and restoring country houses did not start until much later into the 20th century. This DVD takes a tour around England, Wales and Northern Ireland looking at what the Trust has in its care. And what they own ranges across many different types of heritage from country houses to small cottages; whole villages, from estates to industrial; Castles from the Normans to Victorian; Industrial sites from tin mines to the mills of the Industrial Revolution and above all thousands upon thousands of miles of some of the most spectacular and dramatic landscape from coastline to islands; moors to mountains and a vast variety of beautiful gardens. It would be quite impossible to include in one DVD all that the Trust own, so this disc takes the best examples across their inventory, and with a use of a map, which will slowly build with the places seen, take a tour around the country. The DVD shows well over 60 locations, covering the main interest points including stories from the past which best illustrate the place in question.
