Description

The over-riding feeling of all Gasheads should be one of pride after a truly outstanding effort by Darrell Clarke, his staff and this extremely committed group of players.

The Pirates enjoyed their best League season for 17 years, as a top ten finish in the third tier was achieved for the first time since Ian Holloway’s side just missed out on a playoff place in 1999-2000.

Rovers entertained and excited the loyal Gasheads, by equalling the highest number of home wins in all the club’s previous third tier seasons at the Mem, with thirteen victories in Horfield.

Darrell Clarke’s side were hugely entertaining at home and smashed in four goals against Bury and Coventry City, as well as against Crawley Town in the FA Cup.

The team equalled the biggest winning margin ever at the Mem by recording a 5-0 victory against Northampton Town, in which Ellis Harrison scored the club’s second fastest hat trick ever, inside just 24 minutes. A further goal in the second half meant that he became one of only thirteen Rovers players to notch four in a League game.

After a Chris Lines thunderbolt secured victory over Cardiff City in the EFL Cup, the prize was a trip to Stamford Bridge where Rovers were narrowly beaten in a five-goal thriller by a Chelsea team which has won two of the last three Premier League titles. Rovers were cheered on by 4,000 fans, and extended highlights of this match are included.

Highlights include seeing three different hat-trick scorers in League games for the first time in any season since the 1930s; Ollie Clarke grabbing the quickest Rovers goal at the Mem against Chesterfield; and also Byron Moore netting the club’s fastest ever goal in League football, after only 12.5 seconds at AFC Wimbledon.

Rovers’ away following was nothing short of astonishing. As well as the huge support at Chelsea, 4,000 fans attended the away game at Coventry and the average following on the road was over 1,000. At home, the average was a very healthy 9,302, Rovers’ highest since the 1975-76 season.

No team has ever won consecutive promotions from the fifth tier to the second, but Darrell Clarke and his players took the fight down to the last two games, which is something to be applauded and enjoyed on this souvenir DVD, which includes exclusive interviews with the manager, two-camera coverage with live commentary of all home games, as well as fascinating facts and stats.

This comprehensive season review is produced by Screen Soccer, which has covered every Rovers home game since 1989. It tells the full story of a campaign in which the Pirates once again graced some of the most famous football stadiums in the country, just two seasons after competing in the Conference. In total, this double-disc DVD, which runs for 3 hrs. 30 mins., includes over 160 goals from all 54 competitive games.
