Description

After a brief visit to BR’s last narrow gauge line at Aberystwyth, we see the earliest days of the Talyllyn and Festiniog before exploring long lost slate quarry railways of the Penrhyn and the Padarn and Dinorwic quarries. Each railway is covered in detail, with lineside trips up the lines and the slate quarries fully explored.

Full description from the producer:

This is the fourth railway film by Ivo Peters, originally released in 1988 on VHS video. In early 2019 it was remastered for DVD with some minor picture and sound editing to enhance this popular volume. The original material was 16mm film. This volume takes Ivo Peters’ coverage of Britain’s railways into a new realm – the fascinating narrow gauge railways of North Wales. After a brief visit to BR’s last narrow gauge, the Vale of Rheidol Railway at Aberystwyth, we see the early days of preservation of the Talyllyn and Ffestiniog plus a journey up the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The major part of this volume covers the long closed and lost slate quarry railways at Padarn and Penrhyn and Dinorwic Quarry. Each railway is explored in detail including lineside trips up the lines as well as the slate quarries.
