With well over 500 locos built, the Class 47 or the Brush – Sulzer Type 4, as they were known when first constructed, are by far the largest numbered class of BR main line locomotive.
• This superbly photographed and produced programme traces the history of this most widely traveled and utilised of all BR classes. Introduced over 30 years ago, these powerful and versatile locomotives have had a long and colourful career. However the early examples were not initially universally welcomed by rail enthusiasts as they certainly hastened the final demise of BR steam!
• As well as including unique archive footage of early Sulzer type 4s in service, this video features all the major liveries carried by 47s over the years.
